What is the best car for a 40 minute commute everyday?

David Boehler: VW Golf TDi, really fuel effient and comfy, i'm english so i dont know what there called in the US.

Rena Pepe: Public transportation is your best bet! In the long run it"s cheaper & less of a hassle driving with thetraffic, & worrying about parking & the idiots who talk on their cell. Plus, saving on gas & the clean air. How about a chance of taking a trafiic ticket, & maintaining your car.

Arnulfo Seegars: I would go with a newer Ford Fusion. They are really nice vehicles. I would also consider a Honda Accord or Civic (Newer than 04). Good luck with your search!

Lana Uliano: Honda Civic is one of the most reliable used cars out there in your price range. If you get one from around or before 2004, you should find a basic model for around $10K.Toyota Corolla from around 2005 should be in that price range too. Both cars will last for 200-300K miles easily, as long as they're taken care of. If you want some assurance, go to a place like CarMax! instead of just looking at ads and hoping. Also, never buy a car that's sitting on the side of the road with a sign on it. That's a technique called "curbstoning" and is often used to easily dump lousy (sometimes previously totaled cars)....Show more

Robin Tommie: go with the bike!!!! like bmx so it will be new.. new to your self.... and try for the 40 minute bike a day... im sure you will not buy any new in 6 months

Gerardo Greist: Well... for under 10,000 I think it would be likely that you'll have at least some problems... that's kind of why the original owner got rid of it; because it was getting older and is going to start breaking down. However, to improve your odds I say stay away from anything domestic. The domestic brands really got their act together with quality and longevity after they were hit hard by the economy... so in my humble opinion any domestic used brand for under 10k will likely be a breakdown waiting to happen since it was built before the! drastic quality improvements.I purchased a 97 Toyota Camry wh! ich had 200,000km (approx 120,000 miles) on it. I have in two years nearly doubled that mileage (2 hour daily commute...) with nothing more than oil changes and a few light-bulb replacements (headlights, interior lights)... and one bumper repair on account that I hit someone (shouldn't include that since it wasn't the car's fault!). Unbelievably reliable in my opinion.I would hazard a guess and say that any Toyota or Honda would make an excellent choice for what you're looking for....Show more
