Susan Rambo: Multimedia software are programs that entertain a user with music and videos. Some well known programs would be iTunes, QuickTime Player, WIndows Media Player, VLC Player and others like those. Basically, multimedia software is software that allows one entertainment through using the program.Office software are programs that are used for business or school. Programs such as those in the MS Office Suite are a perfect example. Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access. There's also the OpenOffice Suite which is a free, open source equivalent to MS Office's software. OpenOffice consists of Word Processor (equal to Office Word), Presentation (equal to PowerPoint) and Spreadsheet (equal to Excel or Access). There are mor! e programs in the OpenOffice Suite, but I have made my point.Database software would be a program such as MySQL (pronounced: My-Sequel) however, database software is not used alone. A database is just a collection of information stored by a program in an organized fashion so that the program that uses the databased can easily find and access the specific information requested. A program like Excel or Access would be used to input the database information then you tie Excel or Access to MySQL and that program will then create the database so that the information can be stored and kept there. Many programs can use a database software, they just have to be tired together. Chat Clients would be another type of software. Chat clients are those programs that allow you to instant message such as AIM (Aol Instant Messenger), YIM (Yahoo Instant Messenger), MSN (aka Windows Live Messenger)...etc.Graphics software would be programs like Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photoshop, GIMP (Gnu Imag! e Manipulation Program). Basically, any type of software that ! can create, edit or manipulate a picture is graphics software.Honestly, there's so many different types of software out there the list goes on and on. A specific instance of such software is called a software application, application program, application or app. That's all I know about the application software.
Luke Kosch: Application software does something useful for an end user - edit text, keep records, add x+y. System software - eg. Windows Firewall Service does something useful for the Host of these applications ! - Windows OS.
