Moira Woodrow: methane is CH4, the smallest carbohydrate compound, it is a a green house gas, similar to CO2, at low temperatures it solidifies, but evaporates easily with rise in temperatures, it is created naturally by by anaerobic decomposition of organic material , but it is oxidized very easily, so methane does not remain very long in the atmosphere. it is also quite poisonous.
Sang Hanafin: A gas composed of one atom of carbon surrounded by 4 of hydrogen. It's a byproduct of many agricultural processes. It causes global warming just like CO2, by absorbing heat radiating up from the ground, and reradiating it in all directions, including down. It's actually more powerful than CO2, but there's a _lot_ less of it in the atmosphere, so it's less important. But much of it is fro! zen in the ground near the poles. If the soil there thaws, it will be released, and could make global warming much worse.More here:http://zebu.uoregon.edu/2004/es399/lec02.html...Show more
