Is it arguable that the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is the greatest achievement in the history art?

Marti Declue: Visual art, that is.

Dorine Nurre: I think it's arguable but that doesn't make it true. There are so many other amazing artistic achievements that it would be hard to say it's the best, but you could make a case for it.Hope you like my answer!

Robin Tommie: That really depends on your definition of art. Do you consider ancient structures art? If so I might have to say things like the Great Pyramids/Sphinx at Giza, Stonehenge or maybe Taj Mahal. Then again those are structures and it would depend if you classify them as art. I think they are, the absolute magnitude of their construction in that time is amazing. Just my thoughts hope you get some answers you like.

Sharron Salin: It certainly could be, for you. I have a history of art in my own paltry career...Maybe Michelangelo, if he were a historian, would have his own ideas...

Sharri Scalley: I wouldn't think so... it's awesome, of course, but as far as achievements go, the pain! ting in itself didn't really do anything entirely new to the art world (besides being immensely beautiful, of course). If you're looking at Renaissance work, and major breakthroughs, I'd look at Masaccio's Holy Trinity, which pretty much laid a foundation for perspective, which was a huge achievement. But of course, that is only one achievement out of thousands- It's probably impossible to pick one piece as the greatest achievement....Show more
